The Statesman Journal, part of the USA Today Network, is
working with the Mid-Willamette Emergency Communications Collaborative, to help
residents prepare for a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake, which could have a
magnitude of 8.7 or greater.
The Statesman Journal, along with state, county and city
officials and representatives of the American Red Cross, the Salem-Keizer
School District, NW Natural gas company; KMUZ Radio, CCTV community television,
SEDCOR, and Salem Health, are joining forces to ensure that all segments of the
community are prepared for a Cascadia event.
Stories that begin today in the Statesman Journal and the
list of contents for an earthquake preparedness kit will be available on all of
the above-mentioned partners' websites.
The collaborative would like to collect information about
residents' preparedness for a disaster as the series of stories launches. It
will collect it again after the series concludes. Thank you for taking the time
to help others in the Mid-Valley be better prepared for an emergency.
